It is no secret that my studio is located in an area that caters to and supports the US Government. Most of my clients work in more traditional industries like government contracting, consulting, real estate, and banking. This means that most people come to me only thinking they need ONE updated headshot for their business.
And I get it! If you are not in an industry that relies on social media, then the idea that you need a full session of images to show and display seems a bit unnecessary. Stick with me though, having a handful of great images that you can use at the drop of a hat to promote your different business opportunities can be incredibly helpful
So what kind of images should you have? I'm glad you asked!
Here are three images you need to promote your business
1. A great, well lit, updated headshot that if you sent it to someone they would see that you are approachable, engaged, and friendly. That is A LOT to put on a headshot but that is exactly what people are looking for when they seek out the help of a photographer.
2. The next image that you need to consider having as a part of your portfolio is more of a lifestyle image. This image needs to show you in a different way than your traditional headshot. Having some images that are not your normal, studio, headshots, (like above) are great especially if you are doing any blogging or social media promotion.
These kinds of images are best if they are on location, well thought out when it comes to color and style, and posed in a more relaxed way.
Kind of like the one below.
(And notice how the framing of this image is off to the side? You sometimes need that extra space to place titles or graphics.)
3. A headshot that shows more personality. If you do any public speaking, podcasts, or any other kind of media, it gets old always giving out the same old headshot. Especially if it is the traditional headshot that we discussed above.
Theses kinds of events are more personality driven so your image needs to show that personality. Yes, even if you are discussing a topic like contract processes with the government or congressional policy.
You can still use a traditional studio setting but by changing the pose and expression, it is easy to get an image that makes you more approachable and interesting to your intended audience.
The idea here is that every single client that comes to me has an idea of the number of images they need from their session. And almost. every. single. time I know, that they will need and want more when we are done. (really, every single one).
So instead of thinking that you want to get this over as quickly and as easily as possible when you need a headshot, instead, let's have a conversation of all the ways you can use these images in your business so you have exactly what you need, without reservation, in the year ahead.
