These days a lot is riding the visual image you put out into the world. After all, your headshot needs to make you appear friendly, kind, proficient, and accessible. It needs to portray you as confident and as an expert that people need to call so that you can help them in your area of expertise. That is a ton of pressure from a little image that some never view any larger than the profile image on LinkedIn. However, there is so much riding on a that image. Even if you never use it for anything but that small profile picture.
You NEED a good professional image of yourself that you are proud to show off. Why? I’m glad you asked.

It shows that you care about what you do and how you present yourself to the world. Are you the type of professional that cares about the so called “little things”? People notice this when they are looking for service in their business and personal life.
-
It helps you stand out from the crowd. A great, updated image allows you to emerge as a leader in your field.

A great image doesn’t have to be stuffy and formal, in fact, I don’t believe that it should be those things. A great image allows you to show a bit of your personality even before you get that call or inquiry. It draws people in and entices them to look further into what you do. If you look at my image above it shows me as approachable, friendly, and as someone that you might want to work with. (at least that is what people have told me.) You want the same for your image.
-
A visual reminder. The great thing about a good, current, image on your social media is that when you go to networking events and want to connect with others, that image can jog people’s memories and also make them feel connected to you before they come over and introduce themselves.

A great image should represent your brand. We see a lot about branding your business and that used to be for the big companies that you saw on TV. Nowadays, having a good, professional looking, cohesive brand is something that EVERYONE needs to pay attention to. It is far deeper than logos and company colors. Your image will represent your brand and your business. Make sure you aren’t posting the image that Aunt Alice took at last years family reunion with Uncle Phil’s arm around your shoulder that is grainy and a little out of focus. (yes, we notice those things)

It gives you a sense of confidence that you are presenting your very best self to the world and the people around you.
So let me ask you, when was the last time you updated your online image? I know for some of you it has been WAY TOO long! (pssst, rule of thumb is that if you work in a traditional field and don't have to be putting out a lot of content on social media for your business, every 1-2 two years can work. If you are posting often and needing lots of images, you might need to come in for a content refresh, every six months.)
We change with time. Our hair, skin, clothing choices, all of it adapts as the seasons change. We can't stop the hands of time BUT we can find a great photographer who knows how to use light and posing to make you look your best.
If you need an updated image, let's chat. I know a lot is riding on this image. Working together we can make it exactly what you want to show the world.
